Davis, California is located 15 miles west of Sacramento and 75 miles east of San Francisco. Davis is a university-oriented city with a progressive, vigorous community noted for its small-town style, energy conservation, environmental programs, parks, preservation of trees, red double-decker London buses, bicycles, and the quality of its educational institutions. It is an education center with light industry; machinery, processed foods, and computer equipment are produced.
The extensive Univ. of California at Davis, which has a major agricultural research center as well as schools of law, medicine, and engineering and the Mondavi performing arts center, is there. The National Primate Center and a university of Native American and Chicano cultures are also in Davis.
Our downtown spans 32 blocks with over 490 retail, professional, and service businesses and over 70 restaurants and coffee shops. Downtown Davis serves as the city's center for business, culture, and entertainment.

Local daily news in Davis: East Palo Alto to hold 26th anniversary parade, community celebration on July 4
East Palo Alto will commemorate its 26th birthday and the country's Independence Day with a parade and community celebration on July 4. The festivities will begin 9 a.m. at Cesar Chavez Elementary School with parade-goers leaving the school around 10 a.m. for a march to Martin Luther King Park, Mayor Ruben Abrica said.
They carry a torch for Special Olympics

Davis library moves to 2nd Street for now
On Tuesday, June 30, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors will consider an agreement with the Davis Indoor Sports Center, to lease its property at 2801 Second St., Davis, for purposes of accommodating the library program while the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library is being remodeled.
